My Dream House

It’s always been my dream to own a house. A house of my own. It doesn’t matter if it’s old or new as long as I can call it mine. You see, I have all this set in my mind since I was a kid, a not so big house, big front yard for my garden (of course I love flowers), I also want a big back yard for my vegetable gardening plus herbs ( I wont missed that of course) and a big playground for my kids.

Growing up in a smaller house make us (my bro and sis) more close with each other. We share bed and mattress. Oh those where the days. Ok let me go back to my dream house. Maybe 3 to 5 years for now I wish I can have my own house. Probably I can loan from the bank right? Lol…

I’m thinking if I can just loan a mortgage and buy an old house (so it would be cheaper) and we can just renovate it after sometimes. Isn’t good idea? Buying a new furnish house is no good now a days, it cost so much compare to an old house. I’m kuripot (cheap). Lol. I can just easily change those bins and skip hire and change it to new one and have it renovate with the help of my Dad of course he knows almost everything about carpentry thank God. Lol.

NICE, France (Reuters) - Pregnant Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is doing well in a French Riviera hospital and is expected to give birth to twins in "the coming weeks", her doctor said on Wednesday.

Doctor Michel Sussmann gave few details away during a brief news conference, declining to reveal the sex of the expected babies or give a clear indication of the likely birth date.

"What she needs now is simple surveillance by monitoring to ensure the good health of her babies in the weeks to come," Sussmann told reporters at the Lenval hospital in the southern French city of Nice.

Jolie, 33, arrived at the hospital on Sunday by helicopter and has a suite of rooms reserved for her and her partner Brad Pitt, which have been sealed off by bodyguards.

"Mrs Angelina Jolie and ... Mr Brad Pitt, told me to let you know that she is doing just fine at the moment," Sussmann said.

"She is a patient like any other ... very simple and for whom I have a great deal of respect," he added.

Jolie and Pitt, 44, already have four children, three of them adopted and the fourth, Shiloh, their biological daughter born in Namibia in 2006.

After months of speculation surrounding her pregnancy, Jolie finally confirmed she was expecting twins in an interview at the Cannes film festival in May. Continued...

All bets are off now as Google's search ad partnership with Yahoo is being formally scrutinized by the Justice Department, according to an article in today's Washington Post. While Google and Yahoo had agreed to forestall the deal until the DOJ finished a voluntary review, the formal investigation is a red flag that signals serious antitrust concerns on the part of the DOJ. Here's what one expert quoted in the article says:

"It doesn't mean they have drawn any conclusions," said Peter Guryan, a partner with Fried Frank and formerly an antitrust lawyer in the Justice Department. But "it is a significant step beyond a request for voluntary information," he said. "It demonstrates that the DOJ clearly has questions."

The deal, announced on June 12, would give Google the ability to place search ads alongside Yahoo search results. While Google maintains that such a capability is good for consumers and advertisers because it provides more targeted advertising along with search results, and it would likely infuse Yahoo with an annual $800 million in much needed cash, critics say the deal only weakens Yahoo and strengthens Google's monopoly on search advertising.

Whatever the outcome, Microsoft, the No. 3 player in search whose purchase of Yahoo was recently rebuffed, must be smiling--at least for now. In fact, the Wall St. Journal reported today that Microsoft is renewing its search for partners--including big media names like News Corp. and Time Warner--to help in its Yahoo takeover bid. So far, no takers, but the deal is anything but dead.

Ex-justice secretary runs to SC for relief

MANILA, Philippines—The Sandiganbayan Monday issued an arrest warrant for former Justice Secretary Hernando Perez and his wife in connection with the $2-million extortion complaint lodged by former Manila Rep. Mark Jimenez.

Perez was not immediately available for comment. Phone calls and text messages from the Philippine Daily Inquirer went unanswered. Perez was not in his office either at the University of Batangas in Batangas City, where he is president.

Hours earlier, Perez and his wife filed an urgent manifestation asking the Supreme Court to order the Sandiganbayan to defer issuing and serving any warrants against them until the high tribunal rules on their petition to reverse the Ombudsman's recommendation they be prosecuted.

The extortion complaint stemmed from the $470 million build-rehabilitate-operate-transfer contract covering the Caliraya-Botocan-Kalayaan hydroelectric plant in Laguna that was signed in 1998 between the National Power Corp. and the Argentina-based Industrias Metalurgicas Pescarmona Sociedad Anonima (IMPSA).

Charges were subsequently aired that former President Joseph Estrada had been offered $14 million to approve the contract. After Estrada was ousted in 2001, Perez allegedly went to Jimenez demanding $2 million. In exchange, Jimenez would not be forced to reveal the people involved in the alleged bribery scandal against Estrada.

Estrada has denied any wrongdoing, claiming the IMPSA contract was finalized four days after he was ousted during Edsa II which installed President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. This was after Perez as justice secretary issued the required opinion declaring that the deal was aboveboard.

Jimenez later withdrew his accusation against Perez, saying he had forgiven him.

Bail set at P30,000 each

The First Division, chaired by Justice Diosdado Peralta, issued the warrant for the arrest of Perez, his wife Rosario and brother-in-law Ramon Arceo Monday afternoon, and set bail at P30,000 each.

A case against the three for violation of Section 3-B of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act is pending in the First Division – one of the four cases they're facing before the Sandiganbayan.

"To avoid arrest, they can come here and post bail," Manuel Torio, supervising judicial staff officer of the Sandiganbayan's security and sheriff service, said in an interview.

The warrant will be circulated among the Central Police District, National Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and the National Capital Regional Police Office on Tuesday, he said.

The Perez couple's address is listed as 30 Bonifacio Street, Old Balara, Quezon City, while Arceo's is 3 Dao Street, Valle Verde Subdivision, Pasig City.

SYDNEY – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 rocked the Loyalty Islands region of the South Pacific on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake, centered 86 kilometers (55 miles) southwest of Vanuatu and 177 kilometers northeast of the Loyalty Islands in the French territory of New Caledonia, struck at 1833 GMT at a depth of three kilometers, it said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a tsunami and there were no immediate reports of damage.

But it added that "earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred kilometers of the earthquake epicenter".

NPAs strike in Abra, kill 7 soldiers

BANGUED, ABRA—At least seven soldiers were killed while three others were wounded in a gun battle with communist New People’s Army rebels in Boliney town on Wednesday.

The attack prompted the police to delay the transfer of ballot boxes in Boliney to the capital town of Bangued for the provincial canvassing.

Marinette Reyes, a nurse at the Abra Provincial Hospital where the victims were taken, said six soldiers died in the fighting. The seventh fatality was taken to a funeral parlor here.

One of those killed was 2nd Lt. Mark Evan Onrubia, one of the unit leaders of the 41st Infantry Battalion and graduate of the Philippine Military Academy. His body was taken to the Funeraria Baquiran here.

Second Lt. Federico Morales, an officer stationed at an Army base here, said the three wounded soldiers were taken to Metro Manila for treatment. Morales declined to identify the casualties.

Reports gathered by the Inquirer indicated that at least 40 rebels ambushed Onrubia’s unit in Boliney at around 5:45 a.m.

On Sunday, soldiers engaged NPA rebels in another village of Boliney. No casualties were reported.

In a television interview on Wednesday, Lt. Col. Ernesto Torres Jr., Army spokesperson, said the rebels intended to snatch ballot boxes from Barangay Bao-yan in Boliney.

The soldiers were “clearing the road from armed threats when the incident happened,” he said.

Chief Supt. Raul Gonzales, Cordillera police director, said the ballot boxes in Boliney were kept in the municipal hall and would be transferred to Bangued as soon as the area was secured.

IMF chief warns of war over food

WASHINGTON—The head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that if food prices remain high, there will be war and other dire consequences for people in many developing countries.

IMF managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn added that the problem could also create trade imbalances that would impact major advanced economies, “so it is not only a humanitarian question.”

With governments in Haiti, Egypt and Bangladesh already facing social unrest because of rising food prices and shortages, Strauss-Kahn said Saturday that if the price spike continued, “thousands, hundreds of thousands of people will be starving. Children will be suffering from malnutrition, with consequences for all their lives.”

Development gains made in the past five or 10 years could be “totally destroyed,” he said, warning that social unrest could even lead to war.

“As we know, learning from the past, those kinds of questions sometimes end in war,” he said.

Thirty-seven countries currently face food crises, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization.

On Saturday, Germany’s development minister, who attended the World Bank’s Sunday meeting, called for greater regulation of the global biofuels market to prevent its expansion driving up food prices.

“It is unacceptable for the export of agrofuels to pose a threat to the supply situation of the very people already living in poverty,” Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul said in a statement.

She said the world needed new rules that balance goals, including climate change mitigation, food security and social development.

The development group Oxfam, a frequent IMF critic, said rich countries were largely responsible for the food crisis because they had been cutting aid to developing countries and encouraging biofuel production, which, the IMF said, was responsible for almost half the increase in the demand for food crops.

“Rich countries’ demand for biofuel is driving up food prices and is a big part of the problem,” said Elizabeth Stuart, an Oxfam policy adviser. “Meanwhile, by cutting aid levels, they are doing precious little to be part of the solution.”

Strong impact on poor

Strauss-Kahn spoke at a news conference here after a daylong meeting of the steering committee of the 185-nation IMF that dealt with the unfolding global financial crisis that had affected economies around the world.

In its communiqué, the committee noted “that a number of developing countries, especially low-income countries, face a sharp rise in food and energy prices, which have a particularly strong impact on the poorest segments of the population.”

The committee urged the IMF to work closely with its sister institution, the World Bank, and other organizations to provide developing countries with financial support and policy advice to deal with these problems.

The Washington-based IMF and World Bank were established 64 years ago to respectively regulate the global economy and provide aid to poor countries to reduce poverty.

Taxpayers would get checks under economic stimulus plan

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. taxpayers would get checks of several hundred dollars from the federal government under a plan to stimulate the economy, congressional and Bush administration officials said Thursday.

"Tens of millions Americans will have a check in the mail," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, said at a Capitol Hill news conference. "It is there to strengthen the middle class, to create jobs and to turn this economy around."

House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said, "I'm looking for quick action in the House. I hope that the Senate will follow quickly so that we can put this money in the hands of middle-income Americans as soon as possible."

Sources on Capitol Hill and at the Treasury Department said the plan would send checks of $600 to individuals and $1,200 to couples who paid income tax and who filed jointly.

People who did not pay federal income taxes but who had earned income of more than $3,000 would get checks of $300 per individual or $600 per couple.

Easter. This is to be the season of renewed hope. And it should be taking on a deeper, more urgent meaning in these times, given a morally bankrupt government that has no qualms about ruining all of the country’s institutions just to stay in power.

But, alas, the two remaining institutions that people trusted would remain steadfast in the search for the truth that the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is desperately trying to keep from the people, have allowed themselves to be used in the cover-up. March 25, 2008 might as well be called “Black Tuesday” in the country’s judicial history.

The Office of the Ombudsman, mandated by the Constitution to investigate public officials (including the President) for wrongdoing, denied a motion to summon Ms Arroyo to its own probe of the national broadband network (NBN) deal with ZTE Corp. Maypagasa, one of the complainants, strongly condemned this act of omission and called on the people to see for themselves how the legal venues in the search for truth are being closed and to decide on what next action to take.

The Supreme Court, for its part, voted 9-6 to sustain former National Economic and Development Authority chief Romulo Neri’s refusal, in the name of executive privilege, to answer three questions regarding Ms Arroyo’s role in the NBN-ZTE deal. The answers to these questions could have led us to the truth. The Court’s decision virtually condoned corruption and may be seen as a go-signal for government officials to just steal from the public coffers; anyway they can invoke executive privilege in congressional inquiries. This decision should cause us more worry, for it seems the highest court of the land has turned into an “Arroyo court,” an instrument for hiding the truth and mind-boggling corruption.
And now we are confronted by this more worrisome question: How will this Ms Arroyo court vote once the Charter change issue is brought before it for decision?

Maypagasa calls on the people to be vigilant and thwart all attempts by this government to lock all democratic institutions of this country in a tight stranglehold, just so it will be able to hide truth and hold on to power.

The Philippines’ foreign debt burden increased by 2.8 percent to $54.9 billion at end-December from $53.4 billion a year earlier and by 0.9 percent from $54.4 billion at end-September, the central bank reported Monday, citing increased borrowing by the private sector.

Debts of the public sector amounted to $37.7 billion and those of the private sector, $17.3 billion. Official lenders, such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Japan Bank for International Cooperation, were the sources for 39 percent of the total external debt, said the central bank, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). The remainder came mostly from commercial lenders, the BSP said.

Foreign and local banks recorded increases of $681 million and $243 million, respectively, in their foreign obligations, a result largely of increased foreign currency deposits, the report added.

The BSP said the increase in the foreign debts also resulted partly from the weakening of the US dollar against other currencies.

Despite the increase in debt, however, important debt-related ratios improved, the central bank said.

The ratio of the overall foreign debt to the country’s gross national product (GNP) fell to 34.9 percent at end-December from 41.7 percent a year earlier, and the ratio of the debt to the gross domestic product (GDP) dropped to 38.1 percent from 45.4 percent, it said.

“The declining ratios indicated the country’s improving capacity to service its maturing foreign obligations,” the BSP said.

It added that the foreign debt profile was within safe levels, as 87.1 percent of the total had medium- to long-term maturities averaging 18.9 years.

This meant that only 12.9 percent of the debts were to mature in a year.

A paper presented by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) under Administrator Marianito Roque noted various studies pointing out that “the pattern of illness, injury and death among OFWs and their dependents is somewhat different from the general population,” thus the need to put up an OFW Hospital.

Leading causes of death and morbidity among OFWs include cardiovascular diseases, pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis, infectious diseases, hepatisis and psychiatric disorders, among others.

Breaking News: Trillanes, Lim arrested; Makati standoff ends

MANILA, Philippines -- Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and Brigadier General Danilo Lim, have been arrested.

Former vice president Teofisto Guinogona joined the two inside the Philippine National Police bus.

The arrests on Lim and Trillanes were effected shortly after they declared that they were leaving the hotel where they held a six-hour siege to demand the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Trillanes and his group decided to end the standoff after government troops threw teargas at the hotel lobby and an armored personnel carrier rammed the entrance.

"We're going out for the sake of the safety of everybody, for your sake because we cannot live with our conscience if some of you get hurt or get killed in the crossfire," said Trillanes, addressing the media.

"If there's a loser here it's the Filipino nation because she's [Arroyo] still there," he added, noting that he was ready to face the consequences of his action.

Brigadier General Danilo Lim, who was with Trillanes, said this was not the end, calling the incident an “unfinished business.”

One of the most difficult parts of a long distance or online relationship is handling the fact that you are not physically there with your partner. This lack of physical presence can make the whole relationship seem like an illusion. I am sure that almost every person in an LDR has wondered at some point about whether the relationship was actually real or just wishful thinking. With this in mind, it is very important to create a presence for yourself in your partner's life to provide a stable reality that you are a couple and that you are a part of one another. Listed below are some ideas and resources to help you achieve this.

Communication

Don't fall out of touch, even for a short time
- Return all e-mails at the earliest opportunity
- If you are going out of town or are otherwise going to be unable to respond, let your partner know as soon as possible so they don't think something is wrong or start to have doubts.
- Keep all online dates.
Talk regularly through voice chat or via the telephone
- Your voice adds that touch of reality to the relationship and makes you more than just text on a screen

1. A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words
Surrounding yourself, and your partner's living space with pictures of each other is a great way to feel each other's presence. Don't just give each other the one or two token pictures. It isn't enough to give each other a good reality of who the other person is. Constantly take pictures of yourselves in different settings. Every time you meet, take pictures of you both together. You'll want to videotape yourself as well. It is a great way for your partner to see the live you whenever they want.

2. Leave Doubt Out, Plan Your Itinerary Together
A great way to bide the time while you're waiting to see each other is to plan the itinerary for your next visit. Research together online the local city guides and relevant tourist attraction web sites. Not only will this help take away the question of what to do, it will help add even more excitement and anticipation towards your visit.

3. Get In Touch With Their Life

Below are 10 ways to help you close the intimacy gap in your relationship. The main goal in presenting these ideas is to help you and your partner feel more involved in each other's daily lives. You may not actually be there, but you can definitely make them feel like you're a part of what's going on!

1. Voice Memos
Nothing can bridge the gap like the sound of your partner's voice. Voice memos are one of the easiest and cost effective ways to achieve this. You can send your partner a voice memo key chain with the words "I love you" on it. You can get a voice memo photo frame and record "thinking of you always" on it. You can get a personal recorder and just say random thoughts about your day to your partner and send it to them at the end of the week. Many stuffed animal companies offer voice recordings inside of the toy. You could say different recordings such as, good night, sweet dreams, good morning, I love you, and so on. Today's market has so many products available that your options are only limited by your creativeness.

2. Daily Journal/Blog
Chances are you're pretty Internet savvy if you are in a long distance relationship. If you are, sign up for a free blog somewhere and send your partner the username and password. Use this tool as a way to frequently communicate with each other about your daily life and thoughts. If you don't have access to a blog, write a little something about your day each night. At the end of the week, mail your partner the letters.

3. Web Cam Dates
When you're missing your partner's touch, a web cam date can be the closest remedy available. Frequently arrange a set time for these dates. Take turns planning on what you'll talk about or do. Some couples have used these as an opportunity to share a romantic candlelit dinner, watch a movie together or even play games such as Battleship.

4. Shared Moments

7. Journal of Love Letters
Couples in long distance relationships are usually faced with more episodes of doubt than the typical relationship. To help counter this, make sure you are both sending letters to each other, even if by e-mail. Every so often, compile your communications and put them in a journal format. If you can, send your partner a copy of the journal as well. Now, whenever those feelings of doubt creep in, make a date with your journal and spend some time reflecting over how well you've have made it so far.

8. Make it Personal
Send your partner an item of clothing or something personal that they can see or wear daily. It should be something that you use frequently that will instantly remind them of you. Sometimes it's the littlest things that can make everything feel all right.

9. Framed Pictures
There's nothing like seeing your partner's beautiful face daily. Let your face be the first thing they see each morning and the last each night. Make an effort to send framed pictures to your partner whenever possible. I'd try for a new one each month. You can make it more creative as well by having each picture reflect something about each month. For example, in December have a picture taken with Santa or in the snow. You can also use each month as an opportunity to share a moment in your life. Take a picture of you doing something you do every day. Each month pick a new daily task to take a picture of.

10. The Scent of Love
One of the most effective ways to trigger an emotion is through the use of scent. When sending something to your partner, spray a bit of your cologne or perfume on it. You can spray things like a pillowcase, a stuffed toy, love letters or a piece of clothing.

Remember, while long distance relationships aren't easy, they can be the most rewarding. The time and effort you take to cultivate your intimacy now WILL transfer over into your future time together.
